Meet the Author and Discover Running on Greek Time

Starting a blog is more than just putting words on a screen. It’s about sharing a part of yourself, your ideas, and your experiences with others who might find value in them. Today, I want to introduce myself, explain why I decided to begin this blogging journey, and give an overview of the type of content I will be sharing

on this site.

Who I Am

My name is Stavros Vallas, and I live in Massachusetts with my beautiful wife, Samantha, and our dog, Ace. By day, I’m a software engineer, but my true passion lies in watches. What draws me to them is the blend of mechanical engineering, design, and history—tiny machines that tell stories far beyond the time on your wrist. I’ve always had an interest for watches growing up but I really began my watch-collecting journey about 2-3 years ago and have been hooked ever since, proudly considering myself a true “watchhead.”

At the start of 2026, I decided to create Running on Greek Time as a forum to share my journey and perspectives as a watch collector. While I wouldn’t consider myself a writer, this blog represents a new creative challenge for me—an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and explore the hobby I love in a more thoughtful and intentional way.

What This Blog Will Be About

This blog will cover a wide range of watch-related topics. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:

  • Hands-on reviews

  • Opinions on new watch releases

  • My experiences as a watch collector

  • Updates on the state of my collection

  • Predictions and reviews of watch trade shows throughout the year

Each post will aim to be honest, thoughtful, and relatable. My goal is for this blog to be a place where readers can take what I share into consideration during their own collecting journeys—offering perspective, insight, and ideas that genuinely help. Whether you’re just starting your collecting journey or have been in the hobby for decades, I hope you’ll find something here that resonates.

The Meaning Behind "Running on Greek Time"

“Running on Greek Time” is a playful nod to a cultural phrase that means living life at a slower, more relaxed pace, where time feels flexible rather than rigid. In Greece, being ‘on Greek time’ means showing up when you’re good and ready—because why rush when there’s coffee to sip and sunsets to admire? This blog celebrates the idea that time isn’t just something to track—it’s something to enjoy. It’s about appreciating craftsmanship, stories, and the moments that make time meaningful. Enjoying time, not being ruled by it—because sometimes the best moments happen when you’re fashionably late.

Why I Decided to Start This Blog

I am starting this blog as a new passion project. This blog provides a creative challenge that lets me use my interest in watches to produce something meaningful rather than spending hours doomscrolling Instagram. I wanted a way to channel my energy and interest in watches into creating rather than consuming and this blog feels like the perfect outlet. It’s not just about watches though; it’s about building something from scratch, sharing ideas, and spending my time in a way that feels purposeful and rewarding.
